Historic Truman Courthouse
Overview
Located at the heart of historic Independence Square, the Truman Courthouse is a landmark with a rich history that predates Harry S. Truman’s service as Presiding Judge of Jackson County, years before his presidency. The Jackson County Historical Society offers complimentary guided tours featuring Truman’s office and courtroom, the building’s unique past, and the Jackson County Museum of Art, with tours beginning in the first-floor History Center. Check their website for tour times.
Visitors can also explore the courthouse grounds, home to statues of Presidents Harry S. Truman and Andrew Jackson, along with monuments and markers honoring pioneers, the Civil War, and the starting point of the Santa Fe, California, and Oregon Trails.
