Shopping
Whatever you’re shopping for — jewelry, antiques, books, clothing, home decor, Harry Truman’s favorite style of hat, kitchen essentials, nostalgic toys and candy, art or locally made goods — you’ll find it in Independence!
Two of the city’s favorite shopping destinations are the historic Independence Square and the Englewood Arts District. You’ll find a number of shops and boutiques in each location, plus plenty of nearby options for coffee and dining so you can stay fueled and hydrated.
Near Cable Dahmer Arena, an enticing array of national retailers like Bass Pro Shops, World Market, Half Price Books and Duluth Trading Company await; plus, indoor mall Independence Center is a short drive away.
Are you up for the ultimate shopping challenge? See if you can cover all 52,000 square feet of Merchant Square in one day! More than 400 vendors gather in this sprawling space to sell antiques and collectibles. Our recommendation: wear comfortable shoes!
As you explore Independence, be on the lookout for hidden gems. A few of our favorites: 3 Trails Trading Post, Kansas City’s oldest area bead shop; the gift shop inside the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum; Clinton’s Soda Fountain, which stocks nostalgic toys and other fun gifts to pair with your sweet treat; and Gilbert Whitney & Co., a kitchen supply and specialty grocery store that first operated on the Square in 1833.
