Golf
Whether you travel with your clubs in tow or just enjoy a leisurely round now and then, the Kansas City metro offers plenty of ways to get out on the green.
Independence is home to two standout public courses that welcome everyone from seasoned golfers to first-time players, each offering a distinct setting and experience.
Designed by renowned golf course architect Craig Schreiner, Drumm Farm Golf Club delivers a classic Midwest golf experience across rolling hills, wooded stretches and protected wetlands. Schreiner’s work spans public, private and resort courses across North and Central America, and his thoughtful approach is evident here, where every hole feels intentional and scenic without being intimidating. Drumm Farm is well suited for players of all skill levels thanks to its full practice facility, pro shop and a 9-hole executive course that’s perfect for beginners or anyone looking to fine-tune their short game.
WinterStone Golf Course feels like a quick escape to the Ozarks — no road trip required. Also designed by Schreiner, this championship-caliber course winds through hilly terrain, dense tree cover and sparkling lakes and creeks. Once a limestone mine, the land has been transformed into what many golfers consider a hidden gem of the region. Elevation changes and natural beauty make each round memorable, while the course layout rewards both strategic play and confident shot-making. After your round, relax at The Pavilion, a climate-controlled open-air space serving lunch with sweeping views of the course.
With two distinctive public courses close at hand, Independence makes it easy to add a round of golf to your visit — whether you’re chasing birdies or simply soaking in the scenery.
