Visit Independence Celebrates National Tourism Week
Visit Independence Celebrates National Tourism Week with Spotlight on History, Culture, New Experiences—and 2026 Tourism Summit

INDEPENDENCE, MO (April 29, 2026) — In celebration of National Tourism Week (May 3–9), Visit Independence is inviting travelers and the community to discover Independence—a destination where history, culture, and community come together in a way that is both authentic and vibrant.
The week’s celebration will kick off at Visit Independence Tourism Summit on Monday, May 4, 2026, bringing together tourism partners, community leaders, and industry professionals to recognize the vital role tourism plays in Independence’s economy and identity. The summit will feature guest speakers, educational sessions, and collaborative discussions focused on strengthening the visitor experience and supporting local partnerships.
The week is made even more meaningful as it coincides with the May 8 birthday of hometown hero and 33rd U.S. President, Harry S. Truman.
“Independence is a place where every visit tells a story—whether it’s exploring our new trails system, walking in the footsteps of President Truman, or discovering something new in our local shops and restaurants,” said Allison Calvin, Executive Director of Visit Independence. “National Tourism Week—and our Tourism Summit—give us the opportunity to celebrate not only our visitors, but also the partners who make tourism thrive in Independence.”
