Keep the SantaCaliGon Spirit Going

The name SantaCaliGon celebrates Independence’s unique place in history as a launching point for the Santa Fe, California and Oregon Trails. For generations, people set out from Independence with determination, resilience and an adventurous spirit as they headed west. That same spirit of perseverance feels especially meaningful today.

Following severe weather Saturday evening, the festival portion of SantaCaliGon Days will remain closed on Monday due to storm damage. For many of the small businesses, makers, artists and food vendors who filled the streets of Independence this weekend, that means losing an important day of the festival.

But just as the trails remind us, the journey doesn’t end when the path changes.

So, let’s keep the SantaCaliGon spirit going—and keep shopping!

More Than a Festival

Events like SantaCaliGon Days are about more than a weekend of food, shopping and entertainment. They bring visitors to Independence, support local businesses and jobs, fill hotel rooms and introduce people to everything our community has to offer.

A visitor who comes for an event may also eat at a local restaurant, shop on the Historic Independence Square, explore an attraction or stay overnight. At the same time, events give makers, artists, food vendors and small businesses the opportunity to connect with thousands of potential customers.

Tourism is an economic driver, but at its heart, it is also about people and place. Events give us the opportunity to welcome visitors, share what makes Independence special and give them a reason to return.

Keep the Spirit Going

For generations, people have made their way to and through Independence. Today, events like SantaCaliGon Days give them another reason to make Independence part of their journey.

The festival weekend may have been shortened, but our support doesn’t have to be.
