Twelve Reasons to Visit Independence in 2013

Trace Your Family History in Independence

Join family history fans as you research at the new Midwest Genealogy Center in Independence, the largest public genealogy library in the nation. Other resources include the Jackson County Archives, Jackson County Historical Society, or the in-house Merrill J. Mattes Library in the National Frontier Trails Museum.

Stroll Back in Time

Follow the 2.7 mile long Truman trail, the Missouri Mormon Walking trail or the Swales walking trail where you can see ruts left by covered wagons and animals of westward travelers. Brochures for the Truman and Mormon trails are available from Independence Tourism. (Tourism also can share a brochure on a Civil War driving tours.) All are free.
