"Puppets - Depression to Recession"
Description: A collection of puppets made by W.P.A. artists at the Nelson Atkins Museum during the depression and loaned by Jean Baldwin and James Seidelman are the featured exhibit.  Also on display is a collection of puppets by Ray Moore from Tennessee and some unusual needle "felted" puppets by Pam Corcoran of Wisconsin.  Tue-Sat 10 a.m. to 5 p.m..  $3 adults, $1.50 children to age 16 (extra fee to make puppet).  (816) 833-9777 or www.hazelle.org.

Memories of Korea Exhibit at Truman Library
Description: Commemorating the 60th anniversary of the start of the Korean War. the exhibit will help visitors feel the impact of the Korean conflict and legacy through the eyes of those who lived there, who fought there, and who were permanently changed by what happened there. Organized around four cultural themes - culture and history, antecedents, war, and legacy, the exhibit will explore the rich culture of Korea; the political winds that led to the first battle of the Cold War; forgotten and newly declassified details that shed new light on the conflict; and the story of the war's aftermath, now six decades long.     Call (800) 833-1225.  www.trumanlibrary.org

Fourth of July on the Trails
Description: 2:00 pm.  Regular museum admission rate.
Pioneers would hopefully reach Independence Rock by July 4th each year.  This was an important milestone on their trek west, as it meant that their timing thus far was just about perfect.  July 4th was also the only national holiday celebrated during their journey west.  During this 30-minute guided tour we will explore how the pioneers celebrated and why the holiday was important to them.

Sounds on The Square Concerts and Movies
Description: Bring lawn chairs and enjoy a free concert, followed by an outdoor movie. The concerts and movies will be held in the parking lot at the corner of Liberty & Maple. In the event of bad weather, the movie will be shown Sunday night at 9 p.m.

Thursday, July 1, The Doo Dads, children and family music, will perform from 6:30 to 8:30, followed by the movie "Kung Fu Panda" at 9 p.m.

Thursday, July 8, Baliroot, performing a musical variety ofr classic rock, disco and country, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., followed by "Alvin and the Chipmunks" at 9 p.m.

Thursday, July 15, Four Fried Chickens and a Coke, a 12-piece rhythm & blues, funk & swing showband, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., followed by Vesuvius Tribe, a fire art performance tribe, from 7:40 to 8:30 p.m.  "The Princess and The Frog" movie will follow at 9 p.m.
